    Hmm... Australian State government politicians have minds about the same size as their constituencies size relative to the world at large. Their motives are IMO well understood from observational studies of rodents.

    First thing you have to demonstrate to get government funding is that you don't need it.

    Secondly, it must "sound good" to members of the public without any knowledge of the real situation, and the science isn't really critical there, and

    Thirdly, it's best if the government can get away with a 'commitment' rather than actually spending the $$$. However, if you have to spend anything, make sure its negligible in the scheme of things. And goes to the right persons. Hence:

    " MCRI is supported by $1 million in funding from the Victorian Budget 2022/23 to develop a business case to supercharge research for innovative stem cell therapies "

    OK - "supercharge" a business case?. Politicians associated consultants get $1m. The public gets nothing. The stem cell research segment of biotech industry moves nowhere in Australia, fast....

    So, no I don't think you missed anything materially important at that end of town. We need to stay focussed on the FDA IMO.
