These are bargain basement prices for SDL at 3c from highs of 50c+.
It is very sad how much shareholder value have been destroyed, I feel for the long-term shareholders.
There are a few lessons that one can learn from this sad episode:
Lesson 1: SDL is NOT a buy and hold company, there are too many risks and long time line for this to be a viable strategy.
Lesson 2: If management keeps pushing back deadlines it is a sign of trouble. SDL has done this many times over the years.
Lesson 3: Monitor the environment, esp one the company operates in e.g IO price
Lesson 4: Cash balance - in need of cash, you can always wait for a better opportunity to enter
Lesson 5: Don't get emotional about the story. Do not base your investment principles on HOPE.
Is this the right time now to buy SDL? Maybe. But I will wait, SDL still in need of cash...so wait for the cap raising. IO sentiment still very poor, and leading into 2015 it's only going to get worse.
