Joyce was born in Tamworth, New South Wales, and is a graduate of the University of New England. In 1999, he set up an accountancy practice in St George, Queensland.^[4] Joyce was elected to the Senate at the 2004 federal election, taking office in 2005, though it subsequently emerged in 2017 that he was not eligible for election. He became the National Party's Senate leader in 2008.^[5] At the 2013 election, he transferred to the House of Representatives, winning the rural seat of New England in New South Wales.

He was elegible for New Zealand citizenship because his father wa born in New Zealand. He had to resign, recontest his seat and was easily reelected.

As for the Queen of England being our boss that is not quite right. She is actually the umpire. God knows we still need an umpire to watch our government.

The point is that Joyce's loyalty would be in doubt in Australia/NZ relations, and Australia isn't mature enough to even be independent of the British monarch.
