This is bullshit, farmers on the whole take excellent care of their land - it is in their interest to do so. Family farmers especially, who generally want to pass the farm down to their kids, will always put the long term health of the land over short term profit. To suggest otherwise is based on 19th century caricatures peddled as if they are present reality. And there is a hell of a lot of government regulation and bureaucratic hurdles, the idea that farmers have free rein to do whatever they want is another outdated caricature.
