Barnett's involvement - IMO is a disgrace - what poor form to use his political position to comment publicly on such issues that have not even eventuated.
Where is the ASX compliance guys - BHP (who dont usually comment on market speculation) are forced by the ASX to issue a highly conditional and "legalese" statement which has left their options open (loopholes - through the term "material" / does not preclude their advisors being in discussions).
But 1 day later BHP allegedly according to Barnett have issued him a seperate email apparently emphatically denying their interest in Woodside.
Shame ASX Shame - the market is not informed, there are 2 distinct levels/ contradictions of apparent official statement in the public domain and they allow this nonsense to go on. BHP and WPL should in my view be suspended from trading until BHP can confirm the existence and content of the "private" email to Barnett.
BHPs statement to the ASX should have been "we have no interest in acquiring WPL" if that is what they are saying to Barnett privately- not the legal jargon / rubbish they wrote the other day.
