Barnett's worry may have some credence however if I had just spent $45B to buy a company with $2B earnings BUT massive medium term LNG development / production uplift (perhaps 8 times production growth in 8 years) - I dont think that I (or BHP for that matter) would be content sitting on undeveloped resources.
No other LNG company outside Qatar has the production profile / early leader in timing / unhedged position of WPL.
Rather than critising BHP "how big do BHP actually need to become in WA" perhaps Mr Barnett should recognise the benefits BHP provide to WA and try to figure out how he can use his influence to encourage them to move their petroleum offices 100% from Vic to Perth - what a feather in his cap that would be further establishing Perth as the regional oilfield centre.
