I think this is a really key point but the in-house manufacture of parts would (to my mind) only be to service equipment out of warranty (assuming the technical specs of 3d printed parts stacks up). There would still be huge volume of such parts machined in-house which is where 3d printing could cut time and costs. Once you have a drawing for a part known to wear/fail you could print it in house and essentially keep older plant running indefinitely - think of the capex reductions possible in some industries.
