    Perhaps I am wrong but I always imagined senior politicians would at all times keep a detailed diary of all events of the day where there own hand is involved, just like sending this thank you note. If he could have admitted to the note earlier on I wouldn't see a big problem - have we reached the point where a friend can't send a mere bottle of wine to congratulate a friend about achieving something (please don't get your boiler fired up at me about the value of the wine, it is of no consequence really).

    On another subject, the royal commission into corruption should run forever IMO. Rotate judges at a suitable point and just keep going. Public corruption will never be eliminated so why limit the inquiry?
