I've always advocated that you invest on risk, not return. The share market is much higher risk than ppl think. You should only invest in it to the extent that you can absorb the loss. Ppl borrowing to invest, or remortgaging their home (same thing) to invest in the market are just plain mad if they don't recognize the risk.
