The median men's super balance is $150k, and for women its $80k (today's The Australian). Its nice to talk about $1M in super, but most people wont ever get that.
There was a report I read whose citation escapes me that said you are roughly equivalent to a govt pension when you earn $57k pa (for a couple) from your fund - that's because of all the benefits you lose if you don't get any govt pension. $60k is awfully close to that $57k break even. In fact, the story went onto say that if you have under $850k (I think) in super, you're far better off getting rid as much as you can/need to so your assets full below the pension assets test and you can draw a govt pension (below about $430k?). This is diabolical in the extreme!
KISS is a good mantra, but it wont necessarily give you the best outcome.
