I spent 10 years doing secretarial work, the last 2 years for the Dean of a faculty at Monash. A few secretaries took the opportunity to undergo university studies after work. I was allowed 1.5 hours per week to study. Did that for 3 years, then studied full time. Overall, 15 years part time and full time study. Didn't mean at all to get into teaching, but that's another story. Retired early, thus my Defined Benefit Pension from the government is probably the lowest anyone has ever been paid. Well, I am grateful enough for it but it's hardy brilliant. Used to have to pay tax on that as well, but in the last few years it has become tax-free.

I got hooked on tertiary study as I had left school after Year 10. No choice. We were somewhat poor and there were three of us kids.

My first job was recording and deliverying telegrams. I did that for one year. CBD, Melbourne. But don't tell anyone that.......lol.
