Bathurst Resources hopes of starting West Coast open cast coal mining operations before Christmas look unlikely to be met, says the director of the Royal Forest and Bird Society, Kevin Hackwell.
"I would rate the likelihood very low," Hackwell said, given the need to get through appeals and public hearings on the project, including hearings on access and concession agreements still required to allow mining to start on Department of Conservation land on the Denniston Plateau above Westport.
