Re, my comments last night which in part were taken from a news article about the work Qld Uni is doing on developing a vaccine, where it was stated that they were modifying the S protein so it could be recognised more easily by the immune system and killed. On reflection this statement at face value does not make a lot of sense because it is the unmodified protein that needs to be attacked and what I think they meant to say was that the modified protein was used in the vaccine so that the immune system could recognize the unmodified S protein on the invading viruses more easily and go on to kill them..
