    I checked the average yearly mileage in the UK.
    It's falling and was 6,595 miles in 2013. Your article 'assumed' almost double at 12,000 miles.

    Then it added on 30% to the estimated consumption while i've averaged less than the rated consumption with my cars.

    When you reduce those grid consumption estimates by 60%, charging mainly at night when consumption is very low, it sounds quite feasable.
    Add to that the gains in efficiency and innovations for charging and it's looking good.
