3w · Edited*BATTERY FORM FACTOR: MANUFACTURING COMPLEXITY AND NUMBER OF PARTS*1. Prismatic: Large cell size lower capex requirements. The rectangular #Prismatic cells win on cost due to lower capex per GWh, fewer process steps, and large cells size. Contemporary Amperex Technology Ltd. (CATL) and BYD prismatic win due to the lowest manufacturing costs arising from their #China location. For example, the labor's share of manufacturing cost is 9- 10% in China versus 19-27% overseas. 2. Cylindrical: Large cell size increases capex requirements. #Cylindrical cells have the simplest and most technically mature manufacturing process. However, the significantly smaller cell size relative to prismatic and pouch formats results in high cost. For example, Panasonic's 18650 and 21700 cells have higher capex requirements arising from cylindrical form factor.3. Pouch: Complex and gassy. #Pouch cells such as those manufactured by LG Energy Solution have the highest manufacturing cost-share due to high process times and additional steps, including stack, folding, lamination, notching, and degassing.iM3NY's Made-in-America Cobalt-free Prismatic Battery Cells enjoy lower capex per GWh, fewer process steps, and large cells size.#energy#manufacturing#technology#battery#lithiumbatteries #energystorage #cleanenergy #NYGigafactory iM3NY
