Regardless, battery tech will improve to ameliorate the current, low level of fire risk. Range and the availability of chargers will improve. The majority of charging will come from solar. And the air will be cleaner (necessary for life) and the world a tad quieter.

And imagine the benefits to a young chap smuggling his gal out the bedroom window for a midnight tryst without disturbing her old man's sleep - all thanks to that silent EV and an ultra-fast getaway . Oh, to be young again .

As Sonicblast posted there are developments happening in safer battery technology.

The fire risk may be low but people are driving around with potential huge explosive devices, there needs to be safeguards.
