Many years ago I worked for one of the countries leading mineral separation companies.
They design complex separation circuits.
They design their own fit for purpose machinery.
They manufacture their own fit for purpose machinery & have a bunch of patents for this stuff.
They send pilot separation plants out to different types of customer sites to test their machinery/design on the exact ore the customers had.
They design scaled up versions of their process plant including non-process infrastructure (power, pot water, camps etc)
They get involved with the EPCM part of the project & send their own commissioning people to site (and construction)
This list of divisions above reads like the company I used to work for.
This bit sounds like them getting behind Lake with boots on the ground.
