Subscription is a great idea because it will force the fat broadcaster living off the state to get more commercial and stream line the corporation. They can run ads like everyone else. The BBC and the ABC is a drain on tax payers in its current format and an old model. They also don't need to be anywhere near the size they currently are. This sort of stuff is SELF INFLICTED. They have been warned for decades but their arrogance and public money entitlement thinking has caught up with them. Its a warning shot to the zombies out here but dont hold your breath. ABC next, but Australia is dominated by regressive left wing press, so it would be a big fight and most pollies wont touch the friggen thing. There is a lot of snobbery and intellectual elitism in these places and that is a joke. They dont work in the commercial world and could use some education as the world seems to be heading in that direction. Govts want this crap off their books to use the money for other social issues that need funding. The BBC costs over $4b pa form memory, that is an awful lot of money that could be used for public housing.
