Don't forget that you're looking at an overall graph there, the states which are locked down and properly managing it are offsetting those who aren't. See New York, Texas and California below for comparison.
On the country wide graph, the daily cases have dropped from about 35k to 20k a day, a difference of 15k. 7.5k of that decrease is from New York alone. Texas is relatively consistent with number of cases per day, and California is still increasing. Lockdowns also started being lifted a little over 2 weeks ago (Texas started phase one on the 1st) so that will only start showing up in the data within this week/next week. You only need a small growth factor over 40 odd states to show a very large growth overall.
Full disclosure, I bought into the bus too early so I'm hoping reality sets in to make some of that back. See how we go!
