If you do a detailed analysis over a number of years there is a large leakage in performance. eg 7th April 2017 S and P 500 Index 2355.54 BBUS 7.61 compare to 16th March 2020 S and P 500 Index 2351.90 BBUS 5.29. So over nearly 3 years with the same level of S and P 500 BBUS value has dropped about 44% or about 15% per annum. One can say that the futures may have given a slight difference in values and fees etc may have taken about 5% of the 44%. The overall result is that this product does not give you a true result.
