Crazy thing is that a swift act to take action in minimising the damage and human casualty may have cost the US a soft recession but the longer it goes on and trying to prop up the economy, get people into work without the situation being resolved it might just come at a cost of a longer lasting depression.

When you see and read just how quickly the unemployment rate can reach 20%-30% then 2 trillion dollars will do nothing and set them back years if not a decade.
