So I'm waiting for an obvious trigger to break the above narrative. With the fed saying it guarantees the market, it seems hard to believe falls will be big.

This could be the trigger. Market sentiment, especially retail, can change on a dime. If the Fed is the last line of defence and they themselves fear the virus then their lquidity/debt backstop might not be enough. Only a proven and available vaccine could stop the stampede for the exits imo, and that’s not arriving any time soon.
