I also agree that a merger is much more likely.
Andrew Forrest supports the little man more than most people realise. I think in this situation he would gain considerably more satisfaction in providing a small player with a chance of success than launching a takeover bid that is probably unnecessary.
By allowing BCI to remain in control of their own operation it frees up resources and time to focus on the their own expansion plan.
FMG has bearly scratched the surface on their own holding yet, so there is no reason to be pursuing other options just yet.
Lets not forget FMG are going to take a nice little profit from the sale of BCI ore so all in all it makes good sense to do business with their next door neighbour.
