    They grow it locally. Then, rather than packaging it here, they send it half way across the world to a sweat shop. Chinese factory workers are paid a bowl of rice to can 100 pallets a day. Then it's shipped back. All that burning of fuel is great for the environment, and on top of that, the company ('New Season', lol great name) make a nice fat profit with their "ready prepared" (ie. 12 months old) beetroot.
