They (Heinz) closed the factory in Northgate, Brisbane and moved it to NZ in 2011. The main growing area around Gatton then moved out of beetroot production as there was no where to process the produce.
The plan was to import most of beetroot from China and label it as NZ Produce , as per their trade agreement with China. Things unraveled a bit with the plan plus the crop got washed out in NZ. Old sayin have all your eggs in one basket etc etc.
