    Reminds me of the guy that was doing the rounds ordering lunch or dinner at various establishments, trying to use a cancelled card or giving some other reason why he couldn't pay on the spot. He left his license details (legit one) and agreed to come back later and settle the account. When he never turned up and police were contacted, they advised they could do nothing because they had an agreement (i.e. contract) with the offender, hence they could only claim for their losses in a civil court. That would cost them more time and effort than their initial loss and it just wasn't worth their while to pursue.

    It is often said that if you lend someone $50 you'll never see them again. Sometimes that could be a good investment...
