From Energy News Premium lead story today discussing STO farmin to CTP acreage, some insight into Statoils plans for Aussie shale:
"Pattersons said that another farm-out deal (by CTP) later this year would more than likely centre around the Georgina Basin, a particularly hot spot on the back of Statoil’s farm-in to Petrofrontier’s assets in the area earlier this year.
The Norwegian giant is aiming to spend a potential $210 million on developing key assets in the basin in conjunction with Petrofrontier and Baraka Energy.
However, it has not yet ruled out taking a further position in the basin, and other Australian shale plays.
Statoil senior vice president of new ventures Atle Rettedal recently told ENP on the sidelines of a gas conference in Darwin that it was scouting around for new projects.
“We seized [the Southern Georgina] opportunity, but we are looking for more opportunities,” Rettedal said.
“So it may be that we are after some more basins, but we believe in the Southern Georgina to make the move.
“There are a lot of opportunities that we did put aside that we also see as ones we might want to pursue … but I can’t be too specific about that.”
