I have been looking at the asx: BEAR recently.

It will be part of my shorting strategy when I get signals to go short, but the problem is the fees - I have 1.37% costs when combing the spread and the MER (management expense ratio).
This is high if you hold the position for some time, which I expect to do.

Consider other options?: (In order of preference)

    Buy gold and/or gold miners.

    Trade SPI mini (ASX200) futures

Specific LICs - Review ALF, CDM, NCC, WAA & PMC (research these carefully as I dont know their structure, but basically looking at using them as they use shorting positions to protect their long positions)

Buying short and long term puts, but options tend to be a "expensive" in my opinion.

Shorting Australian stocks (again, cost problems)

If anyone has any other views on making money in a bear market I would love to hear them.
