This is the thing that gets me about the local denialists argument - that Australia is so unique, we need range because we drive such long distances, EV's will never catch on here, etc... except we don't make cars here any more. So when all the major manufacturers switch to EV production to meet the targets being implemented in EU, US, China, India etc - where exactly are we going to get our ICE vehicles from?
Try buying a new manual vehicle in Australia now. Or a diesel that isnt throttled to meet EU emission standards.
Regardless of the whole fallacy of the range/charge time/"stolen weekend" argument, the simple truth is Australia won't have a choice other than to accept the vehicles that manufacturers are producing. We may end up as the ICE dumping ground for a few years (consider Japanese imports as an example), but sooner or later, they'll stop being produced. It won't matter how unique we think we are.
