I don't believe there has ever been an issue that she WAS the driver of the car.
The appeal issue surrounded the identity of the person who wrote the letter of complaint to police which contained the false allegations against the police officer.
(Dogby, in response to your very first comments on this matter, this was a letter full of lies and solely initiated by the author and NOT as a result of police questioning...which may on occasion lead to people lying)
I understand the woman regrets the comments she has made.
When sentencing for non-specific crime such as false reporting the whole story must be taken into account. This letter was nothing but a malicious rant which had potential to create broad societal condemnation not only of one individual but of a whole police force. What a terrible selfish thing to do. For this very reason, the penalty must be harsh and must send a clear message.
I am willing to bet the family jewels that she won't puruse civil action.
