It looked as though sanity would prevail in the search and destroy campaign against varroa until, true to form, Victoria announced that no bees from NSW would pass the border. The State Quarantine Response Team (SQRT) has 40 staff based at Irymple, near Mildura, issuing entry permits to QLD and SA bees while presumably interdicting terrorist attacks from across the Murray.
As yet there is no confirmation of an anti-bee missile system being deployed along the frontier on the south bank of the river.
I should be checking the identity documents of the bees feasting on the flowers of my Lemon Scented and Spotted gums, both of which would be visible to any sharp-eyed insects on the other side of the no-fly zone.
