That is true. Supermarkets don’t buy weaner steers. Backgrounders buy the wearers grow them out and they go into feedlots for around 100 days. Mind you the prices offered for grain fed steers also took a big hit. Most feedlots would have a forward contract price and that is why prices drops often lag the drop in saleyard prices.
