options are cheaper relative to shares to price in liquidity risk. At any time you want to sell the shares you will be able to, that isn't always true for options as there may be no willing buyers. Bad news may cause shares to go down 20% in a day, but that can be even worse for options as there isnt any buyers, it may be down 40%. The gap you see between options and shares is the pricing of taking on this risk.
