@MirCat; growing up in a small regional Victorian community whose population was greatly increased by those fleeing wartorn Europe etched into my psyche that we're all basically just people and that aspects of human life including religion, wealth and place of origin are details enriching lives.

In the early 1950s regional Australia was pretty rough-n-ready. The overwhelming majority of kids attended a local public school that even provided a free bottle of milk each morning. Public schools were Bob Menzies 'melting pot' wherein kids shared experiences and grew together.

    Not any more!

Unlike in the UK where only 7% of schools are elitist 'private schools' and which received NO public funding, in Australia 35% of kids are now segregated out into elitist taxpayer-funded 'private schools'.

The impact of this education apartheid is becoming increasingly toxic as it manifests as separate and gated schools for those addicted to religious groups, intolerance, prejudice, discrimination, sexual abuse etc. And the budgetary cost to taxpayers for this counter-productive, $Greed-$Feeding education apartheid - $Countless $Billions every single year!
