This is the proposed budget cuts for medical research grants, it is 400 million dollars over a 3 year period. This means massively reduced research into disease causes, treatment (drugs and other alternative therapies) and prevention. This cut will cripple medical, biomedical and genetic research in australia, leading to researchers leaving australia, flooding the job market and being incredibly over-qualified for job positions, and generally australia moving backwards. If you think this is ok then do nothing about it but if you dont show support by joining the NHMRC GROUP and further joining the research groups on facebook or going down to the rallies there is one in perth tomorrow forrest place perth city 12pm. As a researcher I can tell you this incredibly concerning, especially when Barry Marshall is going their with Fiona Stanley....
