I don't have much advice to give, except to say I'm pretty new to CFD's too and found myself in your situation. I shorted the ASX200 at 5550 thinking we're up 1000 points from the lows and we'd have to have a pullback soon. Took a $4k loss closing it out at 5750. Went long again via CFD's on a bunch of American shares and some crazy short dated out of the money S&P 500 call options. Made back all of the losses, plus a little more. American shares are going gangbusters for some reason. Now, I'm not saying to switch from leveraged short to leveraged long - but rather, it's all just a crapshoot. No one knows what the next short term movement is going to be. And if you leverage long or short betting on short term movements, it's as good as throwing a die.
Again, I know it's not much help to you, but it's really opened my eyes to the world of CFD's. It's all one big casino.
