"As they say, the price of peace is eternal vigilance." what they don't say is that the price of peace is the cost of not making enemies what future is there for humans if our only ways of peace are to arm ourselves so much that it makes it too costly for a competitor to attack and defeat us? bloody good if you're an arms supplier no doubt the way forward must be for humans (if we are indeed to survive) - has to be cooperation there's a problem there ----------- it's in our nature to war it seems --------- certainly in the nature and character of leaders we choose - because it's pretty much always leadership that takes us to war the rather unfortunate possibility is that humans actually use war as an evolutionary culling tool - something, which if it's correct - is a bit difficult to get around there is - very unfortunately a BIG problem with the beautiful system that nature has given us of killing each other to make sure that the weak are culled and the fittest survive - and, that is that in a high technology era ---------- that mankind will develop weapons that are very capable at extinguishing all life ---------- and, that it's just a matter of time before there's one human born who is prepared to use such weapons ---------------- and, that - will just put out the lights forever so much for a grand evolutionary and life system to avoid that ------- humans need to circumnavigate their very nature - by, working out some way of cooperating and probably working out some way of culling the weak without going to war with each other if we do not - then, the cost of not finding that - is ------------ extinction and, not only extinction of humans - but, of all life on earth that's a pretty big price to pay

Didn't the mayor of New York try that last week. Got rid of the police and said lets have a love in. Nice thought but wasn't that also tried in Europe prior to world war 2. The best way not to get bitten by a mad dog is to make sure it doesn't get the chance to get into your yard.
