It's good that you made the effort. But if you truly understood religion, you'd know that belief and logic play no part. Belief and logic are mental phenomena. As such, they constitute the primary hindrance when it comes to truth realization. The peace that "passeth understanding" - means it's beyond mental phenomena.

If when you say "there is no god", you mean there's no super-person above the clouds directing traffic, I agree. God simply cannot be an entity of any sort, and nor can it be a 'cloud of love' or a 'super bright light' or anything along those lines. When people make these descriptions, they are manifestations of a mind trying to conceptualize something that cannot be conceptualized. With prayer, meditation or a near death experience, the mind can be transcended to some small degree, it gets a glimpse of the ineffable. With this glimpse, it constructs a mental representation. But the representation is not the thing itself. The map is not the teritory. God is above concepts. Just like logic, rationality, linearity and belief, concepts are what blocks humans from realizing god. God is basically Truth - the ultimate truth of life. Ultimate Truth has no demands upon humanity. You don't have to go to church or be a good little boy or help old ladies cross the road. You don't have to do anything other than realize it - but even that is a choice.

There's a lot more to religion than people realize. It's best to begin by stripping religion of it of all dogma, belief systems, ritual and so on. This is what spirituality tries to do. Just the bare bones.
