My journey to becoming an atheist began when I was less than 10 years old.
My parents had me attend Sunday School even though they were not exactly churchgoers themselves.
We were told about some dude who was swallowed by a sea creature (a large fish or whale? I can't remember which) for days? and survived.
The Sunday School teachers taught this as fact.
We were taught about the plagues that visited the Egyptians to persuade the Pharoah to release the captured Israelites, including God killing the firstborn Egyptian children and the first born Egyptian animals.
This was also taught as fact.
I began to think that these stories were no more factual than Litte Red Ridiinghood is.
From there it wasn't a giant leap to believe that this God is also a fictional character.
From then I vacillated between a strong belief in a God and practically no belief in a God over a period of a least 2 decades.
    ---
I have now settled on thinking that there is no evidence that I personally find satisfactory to believe that a God exists but endeavour to keep an open mind to the extent that I'll change my mind if evidence materialises.
What I would consider to be evidence is another story for another day.
