The universe is effect, then within the universe there is further stages of cause and effect, essentially evolution, transmutation, leading to more developed, refined, cohesive systems, each progressing towards relatively specific outcomes.
Evolution is a word that describes the observation of a process. That process is real and so too is the essence of that process that seems to be rolling out specific outcomes all the way to human sentience.
Either something caused the capacity, direction, outcomes and limits to evolution or nothing caused everything. Evolution is not in and of itself its own cause and then the arbiter of that cause.
All our understanding is flawed. Religion becomes flawed. All religions present only a relative truth. Religion is a process of progressive revelation. They start off as being appropriate for a time and a place and the capacity of the intended audience, have a used by date and then become evermore dogmatic and superstitious.
