over analysing?
he/she may not like speculative stocks - they are for real risk takers. O&G types aren't real risk takers. things go wrong real quick, and get real big, real fast.

There could be a dozen reasons why he/she does not hold. May be he/she thinks property is less risk for the money then drilling random holes in random locations thousands of metres deep?
Perhaps he/she knows how cut throat the business is to make a dollar (or a billion). or, simply maybe the money is spent elsewhere?
Who cares?
Their investment, their decision.

Sensible people would be in stocks with cash flows in both directions, not just outwards if they wish to avoid wealth destruction. the poorer type are willing to risk more to get that next leg up...
Just sayin, the knowledge is worth a lot to the right type of person.

The risk profile of FAR will not suit all types....
