This doesn't make a great read but it makes a lot of points that still ring true today in 2018. I think its pretty clear that SI is a great visionary but............I'm pretty sure he pisses off a fair amount of his fellow CEO's in the medical community. He seems overly obstinate.
I mean as recently as 2 weeks ago this board had a meltdown at how clearly mishandled and "could have been done better" the LVAD results were. That was attrocious the way it was released and the fact the shares weren't put into a TH for the day is.........well thats just straight on him honestly.
The sooner he becomes CMO (Chief medical officer) and a different commercial focused CEO is in charge the better. Hell even the AFR article contains people whinging at him for being very tone deaf to the commercial side of the business and we've been at this over a decade now with things only starting to get moving over 14 years later.
We really do need a partner. And if I had to guess and admittadly I don't know sheet its just a guess. I would bet TEVA walked in large part because they didn't want to partner further with MSB due to personality differences.
Why a company would walk away when minimal further committment was required but they had BILLIONS of upside can only be explained if there was either
1) Bad data (but I think we know thats not true because really no data would have been available at that time)
2) Personality conflicts
MSB could very well have been viewed as the problem child to deal with and not worth the effort or further expense so they sold up and returned to their core portfolio rather than continuing to take a leap of faith with MSB.
Canaccord analyst Matthijs Smith said Mesoblast had been successful in "juggling" its pipeline of clinical trials and opportunities in a way that keeps investors dazzled with news but obscures the group's overall progress.
"Strategically they have gone very wide in what they've been trying to cover and have been claiming everything from heart failure to diabetes to anti-inflammatory [diseases] and a whole broad range of applications, yet on none of those have they managed to really provide compelling [clinical] data around a unique therapeutic opportunity that has commercial application," Dr Smith said. "Diabetes was once a huge opportunity but is barely mentioned now.
Thats a pretty disturbingly accurate quote. MSB has indeed kept everybody dazzled by the science but has consistently failed to turn it into cold hard revenue. And he is right. MSB used to talk about diabetes and that died straight up didn't i? Who's spoken about that in how long now?
