Its kilometres away from sight in valleys on top of a large mountain range not really visible to tourists or locals from the road on otherwise dry barren barely farmable land. Its hardly a pristine tourist area. Additionally much will be underground anyway. I live down here and have no concerns other than the folk who make it difficult. New Zealand along with Canada and Australia are renowned for having the highest environmental regulatory framework in the world for mining. The fastback process will not relieve any developments of those obligations, however, it will remove many of the numb nut lunatics that do not understand the regulatory requirements and only delay things and add costs.
