    Sometimes in this situation a small player (like FAR) will sell a portion of its equity in exchange for being free carried from capex and drilling for the leftover equity. Then sometimes post production they do not share in the oil sales revenue until the capex on the field is fully recovered. Or some similar variant of that sort of deal. I have seen that happen before. This means they do not need to do further capital raisings.

    Or as Woodside did with Hardman, they took a large placement in the company at an above market price and ring-fenced the money only for the discovery they were developing, and at the same time took a blocking stake in Hardman to protect their position from outside predators
