If ABC does go into administration then I think the norm is a couple of years before you can claim your loss to offset capital gains. The administrators have to finalise everything and declare the shares are indeed worthless I think.
fantaz, there won't be a government bailout, in fact I think it is in the best interest of customers that the centres ownership change from being Eddy groves empire to small private operators. they must be allowed to collapse for this to happen, then the banks can move in and sell off the centres.
