I think you will find that those in command of the SAS unit and further up the chain of command knew what went on. But in attempting to maintain the honour, mystique and reputation of the SAS they turned a blinders. From that point on it was "maintain the facade".....at all costs. It was not until evidence, statements, video footage emerged that proved beyond a reasonable doubt that it all fell apart. Very grey area here from an ADF perspective, I gather they wanted it to disappear.....
