overall the blame for pretty much all of the crap we see in wars comes from politicians - at least initially

Special forces have roles - which are really quite specific - and 'special' - that's why they are called 'special' forces.

at the very beginnings of the idea - David Stirling did think that SAS should not only blow stuff up - but, fight and kill people.

The first SAS operation was a disaster - first, they had no equipment so, they pinched it from the New Zealand army in several raids.

Then, off they went and out of 55 blokes - 34 were killed or captured.

Basically from then on - they morphed into what they really are good at - doing sneaky, intel gathering and blowing up stuff - get in, do it, get out

don't get caught and don't get into fights if you can avoid it.

Special forces are indeed special -- personally, I doubt if I would have got through day one of training - they are tough buggers.

But, they are quite different in so many ways ----------- they definitely should never have been put in a role to do what really normal military blokes like infantry and armour should do - that is not their role

it's kinda like getting a Malamute or a Rottweiler with nuts and expecting it to watch the baby ----------- not really a great idea

of course military makes huge errors - read any history book for that one

but, by and large - military is sent in when politicians fail and they fail very very often

if we look to the future and if the horror event of a war with China happens - then, we will be sending our military people in to a total nighmare

why? --------- because of the failure and stupidity of politicians
