Beneficial AI
Not sure if it's been discussed before. In an interview last month with Marc Kennis, Pitt Street Research, Louis mentioned in the context of Early Access Partner's such as Ford, Valeo and Vorago the following about Beneficial AI..
(7.35 mins in)
"We have others which we have been unable to name, one is a very prominent well known US based Unmanned Aerial Surveillance manufacturer, amongst many other things a multinational company. So long description for the word Drone. In this case it would be primarily for commercial use, natural disasters, things of that sort, we would be flying aerial drones for rescue operations.
Things are going on in the smart home arena as well as smart health. When we look at smart health it's what really could be a burgeoning market for us. There's a great opportunity to do diagnosis on Volatile Organic Compounds as we exhale. Everything that we are made of, comes out when we exhale. And you can detect early stage cancers. You can detect diseases such as COVID-19, H1N1 and many others.
We've started to latch onto that arena, as well as one or two others in what we call Beneficial AI. NOW WE ARE REALLY LOOKING TO BENEFIT HUMANKIND. Advances in medical science advances in other types of research. Really does walk around a wide range of end markets."
I'm sure there's a few long termers here that will say stuff it. It should be shareholders first and humankind second.
But I assume Louis' attempting here to distance himself from all things negative about AI. ie. China's security state, and the push back in Europe and particularly the civil liberties campaigns in the US concerning roll outs of cctv surveillance cameras. There's no doubt a a lot of public concern and negativity about these type of "big brother AI applications".
Damn sure the Company does not want to get caught up again in another Lockport situation.
