Acceler8, It can't be denied that the Green anti-csg lobby presents hurdles for NSW operators but that is reflected in the relatively low prices paid for the NSW assets.
Rather than having a lowly CSG pedigree, AJL was one of the founding drillers (& tenement operators) at the birth of the Oz CSG industry. In particular, AJL has rare familiarity with the Lower Hunter/Newcastle gas potential, having established AGL's Gloucester Project, & being the previous owner of Hunter focussed Sydney Gas (SGL)before its sale.
Hence AJL are privvy to the information about these prospects that few other parties would have, and therefore have made an educated investment decision.
The exposure of the investment to political decisions is insulated by the fact that these are not virgin exploration tenements, like those that were clawed back & cancelled by the Baird Govt. Ajl bought into tenements that are drilled with certain approvals given. The right of the government to quash these advanced projects, without compensation is debatable.
But the truth is that both the NSW Govt, taxpayer & resident stand to benefit from a well operated NSW CSG industry. Even in gas-starved Northern NSW, there is a role for smaller scale local gas supply to support renewables (& replace coal generated electricity transmitted in via a myriad of high voltage wires). But the energy intensive & expanding Newcastle region IMO offers the best potential for AJL as AGL's new Gloucester supply is piped from Gloucester to other end uses close to (or via) AJL's new tenement.

& pipelines are AJL's niche area.
& could be the key to turning around Oz operations.
AJL's current involvement in APA's Eastern Goldfield's gas pipeline expansion is a major plus IMO, ahead of potential widespread expansion of the National gas trunklines beyond this year (NT-East Coast Link). The opportunity for additional work to sustain OZ operations while UK/Cuadrilla ripens is ..comforting.
