New Hope’s Bengalla coal mining operation delivered 7.9 million tonnes in coal sales and reduced its unit cost of production despite being impacted by significant weather events and logistics constraints in the Hunter Valley during FY25.
Bengalla’s free-on-board cash cost was $76.5 per tonne for the financial year.
The company is also exploring continuation of operations at Bengalla via EL9431 and AL19, both providing long-term optionality.
New Hope Group Chief Executive Officer Rob Bishop that despite navigating logistics constraints, periods of wet weather and a lower coal pricing environment, Bengalla delivered a strong performance for the 2025 financial year.
“The continued execution of our organic growth plans has provided another considerable increase in saleable coal production, which has underpinned the reduction in our unit costs,” he said.
“In a low coal price environment, our assets remain resilient and continue to generate solid margins through the cycle, allowing us to provide continued returns to our shareholders.”
New Acland surges
Meanwhile, New Hope’s New Acland Mine in Queensland delivered another increase in saleable coal production as the ramp-up of Stage 3 continues.
In addition, the conclusion of the Oakey Coal Action Alliance’s legal challenge provides certainty for the community and a pathway to reach production of approximately 5Mtpa.
New Acland is now a low-strip ratio asset which will compete with Bengalla Mine on an free-on-rail basis at steady state operation
